DIY Kyoto

Just how much energy are you using? It's pretty clever, is Wattson, measuring the electricity you're using throughout the house, and when it's paired up with the software system Holmes (see what they've done there?) it puts you in control of those incredible rising energy bills.

RC

Here's Spykee from Meccano, as seen (brilliantly) on The Gadget Show on Five. He's fab. Or if you prefer some more traditional Meccano, this will do it.

Are you having a laugh?

I was a bit doubtful about ITV's Headcases, partly because it seemed a bit bold to claim that it's following in the footsteps of Spitting Image, but it's very funny. Simple as that. Sunday nights at 10pm.

At the time of going to press

Normally the phrase "at the time of going to press" is simply used in newspapers as a protection against late-breaking news.

Normally, but not always.

The New Statesman this week, writing about Boris Johnson's efforts to become London mayor, says that the campaign "continues gaffe-free, at the time of going to press".

How are we going to get rid of this?

Want to get rid of it, but not bothered about getting any money for it? So it's not going to go on eBay, but maybe you could Freecycle it.

As the website says, "The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,325 groups with 4,808,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills."

Enrich your word power

Here's Free Rice - great fun. It tests your vocabulary, offering you ever-more-obscure words, and at the same time by taking part you're automatically (and anonymously) making a donation to end global hunger.

I got to level 42, but that was my limit.

Caught on camera

The handbag thieves whose getaway route took them past the paparrazi. The photographers were waiting for Rebecca Loos - who'd have thought she's still famous enough - but instead they got plenty of pics to help the police with their inquiries.
