From the front

As we go into 2008, here's a blog with a difference. WW1: Experiences of an English Soldier features letters sent home from the war by Harry Lamin, a soldier from Derbyshire.

The story of the letters was told to Radio 4's Broadcasting House by Harry's grandson, who is posting the letters online in stages, each one appearing exactly 90 years from when it was written.

The clever thing is, we don't know what's going to happen to Harry, just as his family didn't, and it's the timed release of the correspondence which brings the story to life. Any day, we could see a telegraph telling his family of his death. Or maybe he made it home. As the war finished in in 1918, the only certainty is that we'll find out this year.
