I'm reading a cracking good diary at the moment - "King's Counsellor" collects the writings of Sir Alan Lascelles, Private Secretary to George VI during the war.
I'm 99 pages in, and so far, the quote of the book comes from a diary entry on Friday 18th September 1942, which in its entirety reads as follows:
"Carting potatoes, of which we have a fine crop, I was continually struck by the resemblance which the average large potato bears to General de Gaulle, though the potato is, of course, the more malleable of the two."
