In battle with the Queen

I know it's only the end of February , but here's my quote of the year so far, from an interview with Richard Madeley in Esquire, by Rachel Cooke (who writes a TV column each week for the New Statesman).

She's quite taken with Mr Madeley, finding him charming, frank to the point of indiscretion, and "disarmingly modest".

And so to the key moment when the shoplifting charge is brought up - by Richard rather than the interviewer. After a moment or two on how awful the whole thing was, we learn...

"... how shocked he was to see that the documents relating to his case were labelled Regina v Richard Madeley. 'I like the Queen! I didn't want to fall out with her!' "
